    Description

WHILE I PERSONALLY DO NOT USE STRAIGHT RAZORS TO SHAVE, I HAVE A GREAT APPRECIATION FOR THEM, ESPECIALLY UNIQUE EXAMPLES LIKE THIS ONE.
UNUSUAL JOSEPH MAPPIN & BROTHERS SHEFFIELD 7/8 STRAIGHT RAZOR  WITH HORN SCALES IN ORIGINAL BOX.
THE DESIGN OF THIS RAZOR IS QUITE INTERESTING AS YOU CAN SEE. THE TANG HAS A CURVE TO IT WHICH GIVES IT A GRACEFUL ELEGANT LOOK. MORE INTERESTING HOWEVER IS THAT THE BLADE IS MARKED 'PHILADELPHIA".
THIS PRESENTS AN INTERESTING QUESTION. THE MAKER MARK ON TANG DATES THIS RAZOR TO MID 19TH CENTURY, BUT THERE IS SPECULATION THAT THIS RAZOR WAS MADE TO COMEMMORATE THE 1876 CENTENNIAL EXPOSITION....
THATS NOT MY OPINION, IT IS THAT OF A "RAZOR MAVEN" WHO I SHOWED THIS TO.
ANYWAY, ITS PRETTY NIFTY WITH GOOD BLADE AND SUPER SHARP EDGE. THE HORN SCALE HAS A CRACK BACK BY THE RIVET ON ONE SIDE WHICH I SHOWED IN PICS AND MENTION FOR ACCURACY.
I WELCOME ANY INPUT OR COMMENTS ON THIS ITEM.
